We offer most specialty courses monthly, if you see one you like call us for details and dates!

Deep Diver

As a general rule, divers are adventures people and diving deeper is definitely enticing.  Diving deep without adequate training is dangerous.  During this course, you will learn how to safely plan your deep dive, the special equipment required and factors to consider for staying within safe recreational limits. After completing this course, you will be qualified to dive to depths as deep as 130 feet.

Underwater Digital Photography

As you slowly descend, a shape begins to form.  First, you see a straight line, then a round window and next, the wreck materializes in front of you.  Whether sunk intentionally or tragically, a ship, a plane or an automobile, the call of wrecks is nearly irresistible to divers.  Whether it’s your first or your hundredth dive on a wreck, you will sense the mystery and exhilaration of discovery.  Through this course, you get the skills, knowledge and safety procedures you need to answer the siren call of wreck diving.

Wreck Diving

You drift down and pass through a window into the past. As you near the bottom, a recognizable shape begins to form. First, you see a straight line, then a round window. Next, a ship materializes in front of you. As you look at the wreck, past and the present meet. Whether sunk intentionally or tragically, whether a sunken ship, a plane or an automobile, the call of wrecks is nearly irresistible to divers.  Whether your first or your hundredth dive on a wreck, you will sense the mystery and exhilaration of discovery. In some cases you see changes from one dive to the next as the wreck gradually evolves from a work of humanity to part of the underwater world, while in others a wreck seems timeless –you age and change over the years, but it doesn’t. Through this course, you get the skills, knowledge and procedures you need to answer the call of wreck diving.

Dry Suit Diver Specialty

Being cold while diving does not have to be a necessary part of your California diving adventures. Replace your wetsuit with a dry suit! Diving dry is the ultimate way to explore, especially during those chilly winter months. A dry suit keeps you warm by trapping air between your body and the suit. The warmth is further increased by a layer of warm undergarment, similar to that of ski undergarments. During this class you will learn the proper care and use of a dry suit, first in our pool, then in the ocean.

Underwater Navigation

Be the diver everyone wants to follow and make your sense of direction legendary! Heading your dive in the right direction is an important aspect of any successful underwater exploring. This comprehensive course unlocks the mysteries of underwater navigation. You learn to navigate via natural clues as well as your compass. You will also learn to estimate distance underwater and follow navigation patterns.

Enriched Air Nitrox

For Classroom Only:

Enriched Air diving means diving with higher levels of oxygen, which translates to longer dive times.  You will learn how to analyze your tank, set your dive computer and the necessary parameters for safe diving with oxygen-enriched air.

Underwater Videography

Do you want to share the thrill of diving with your non-diving friends and family? Let them experience the sounds, motion and dynamics of your dives with the underwater videography course. In this course you will learn how to create interesting, entertaining and high quality videos, to relive and share your dives again and again.

The Peek Performance Buoyancy

Peak Performance Buoyancy is the course to take if you want to quickly and expertly achieve neutral buoyancy.  It’s a fact:  buoyancy skills separate the good divers from the great divers. You will learn basic weight guidelines, learn how to properly adjust your trim and several ways to control and maintain neutral buoyancy.

Night Diver

You can dive the same spot during the day and again that night and have two totally different dives. There is so much going on underwater when the sun sets; you have to see it to believe it!  Night divers learn to choose the right lights, master the skills of dive planning and night orientation.  Ocean Adventures offers night boat dives, local shore dives and Catalina weekend night diving.

Search & Recovery

Locate items large and small underwater and bring them safely to the surface with the Search & Recovery course.  You will learn search patterns, how to mathematically calculate lifting items from the bottom in salt and fresh water and how to secure and deploy lift bags.

Project AWARE – Fish Identification

As part of this course you will identify and learn about a variety of marine life you often encounter within in our Kelp forests and the Channel Islands. Your instructor will take you through the techniques for successful identification as well as demonstrating how to safely interact with marine life.  You will learn how important divers are to the conservation our aquatic environments.  If you are not already an afishianado, you will be after this course!

Multilevel Diver Specialty

This course is for those who want to dive deeper into the science and technical components of scuba diving.  In this course, you will learn to calculate nitrogen-levels and the length of time you can stay at a particular depth.  You will also learn to plan dives to extend your bottom time by crediting your slower nitrogen absorption when you ascend to a shallower depth. That’s how to really dive. You’ll learn to use a computer to plan multilevel dives, maximize your bottom time and in the end, make you a safer diver.

Equipment Maintenance

This course helps you understand how your regulator, BC and tank work.  You will learn to clean and maintain your gear and how to quickly fix minor problems at the dive spot.  Although this is not a technical repair course, you will learn how your gear operates, what you can do to keep it working and even save a dive!
