North Carolina Wreck Diving 2011

I decided to dive the Atlantic Graveyard off the coast of North Carolina at the Olympus Dive Center, Morehead City, NC. I didn’t realize that I didn’t have to go so far to dive high visibility wrecks. Besides diving in Truk Lagoon, this was the BEST wreck diving I have done in a long time.

The visibility was 70-100 feet and the water at the surface was 80 degrees and at 125 feet was 70-73 degrees. I finally saw a U-Boat (U-352) in person. Amazing to come close to history down there and actually look inside the U-Boat to see how cramped it was for the people who occupied it. Make no mistake, these wrecks are deep and are close to the recreational limit (130 ft) in terms of depth with currents where we dropped down from carolina lines to the anchor lines. And the boat rides to the wrecks are close to two hours which can really beat you up if you are prone to sea-sickness, but TOTALLY worth it in my book. I wish I stayed longer. OH YEAH! You better have a BIG tank or be really efficient on air. These dives are DEEP!
