Truk Lagoon Micronesia Scuba Diving Trip Of 2008
The Truk Lagoon Micronesia Scuba Diving Trip Of 2008 was a major introduction to the world of wreck scuba diving. To have wrecks from World War 2 condensed into such a small area, was amazing to see. It was preserved maritime history at its finest.
WWII History
From February sixteenth to February seventeenth, the United States of America ran a bombing campaign in the Truk Atoll primarily what is know today as Truk Lagoon. Truk Lagoon was a naval stronghold of the Japanese and this was the United States revenge of the Pearl Harbor attack that occurred in December of 1941. The United States sent approximately sixty Japanese ships to the bottom of the sea.
How To Get There
With regard to the Truk Lagoon Micronesia Scuba Diving Trip Of 2008, the flights to Micronesia involved an overnight stay in Honolulu, Hawaii and then continuing with the Continental Air Micronesia flights and making pit stops in various Marshall Islands in the Pacific: Majuro, Kwajalein, Kosrae, Pohnpei and finally Chuuk where Truk Lagoon is. After more than 24 hours of flying and layovers we landed in Chuuk and were transported to the Blue Lagoon Dive resort facing Truk Lagoon.
Accommodations
The accommodations of this resort very basic and it had one restaurant where you ate breakfast, lunch and dinner. But, that’s all you really need because you would only go to Truk Lagoon to dive the wrecks and you would be busy all day doing so. I have to say that the wreck diving of this world scuba location is the mecca of wreck diving at its finest with extremely high visibility and low currents. I would go there many more times. It is definitely a bucket list check off for wreck scuba diver.
