Scuba Diving In Naples Italy
Being fortunate to visit family every two years I was able to scuba diving the Archeological Park of Baiae. The scuba diving in Naples Italy trip was a little different.
Different From Most Dives
Normally being on liveaboard boats, I was able to experience the local flavor of the area while diving in Italy. I contracted to do the dives and snorkeling with my cousin with a local shop in the Pozzuoli area which is on the outskirts of Naples.
Exposure Protection Needed To Be Higher
The water was a bit cold (66 degrees F) and wore a 5mm wetsuit with a 3mm hood. Looking back, I think a 7mm wetsuit with a 7mm hood would have been more comfortable and could have enjoyed it more. The average depth of the dive was 15 feet.
Although I chose to scuba dive it, it could have easily been snorkeled. As a matter of fact there were a lot of people who snorkeled it as well as my cousins who came on the day trip with me. The water’s visibility was slightly turbulent from the rain the day before but was able to see some of the ancient Roman city underwater when the guide uncovered some of the parts that were covered by sand. I was able to see some of the mosaic floor. I would have to rate the scuba diving in Naples Italy trip from a scale of one to ten about a five.
Lower Rating Than Usual
The reason I gave it a five are for the following reasons: low visibility, cold temperature of the water and the dive shop was below average in their service and attitude. Concerning the service, I had to figure everything out for myself and take care of my cousins and set them up with gear. The dive shop basically nothing other than providing us with equipment. My advice concerning the scuba diving in Naples Italy trip is to save your money and do something else.
